Manama, Bahrain, 2nd December 2019 –The Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) celebrated Bahraini Women’s Day 2019, themed “Bahraini women in the fields of higher education and future sciences”, in the presence of Governor Rasheed Al Maraj, Executive Directors, Directors and other CBB staff.
The CBB hosted Dr. Aisha Fuad Bushaqer, Head of Computer Engineering Department at the College of Information Technology at the University of Bahrain to talk about the role of Bahraini women in higher education, and highlight their level of participation and competitiveness in the field of university teaching, academic research and future sciences.
The celebration started with Governor Al Maraj congratulating Bahraini women on this occasion and expressing praise to Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and the President of the Supreme Council for Women, for initiating the move of Bahraini women from the empowerment to advancement, both locally and internationally, in several fields.
The Governor praised the strong presence of women in higher education and future sciences, and their role in scientific research, academic work and financial technology.
He added that the CBB is proud of the achievements of Bahraini women and their excellence in various fields, including that of its female staff, and that the CBB is constantly investing in the development of its staff based on the
principle of equal opportunities, and in light of the continuous technological developments in the banking and financial sectors.
Dr. Bushager shared her experience in the scientific and professional field, as she holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, University of Southampton, Southampton, U.K. She is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) in the UK and a professional member in many associations such as: The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers IEEE, Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Association for Information Systems (AIS), etc. and is the Project Leader of the Blockcerts project for issuing digital certificates anchored to Blockchain.
